Sam Davies Trio

Sam Davies is a pianist from East London with a love of tasteful improvisation and a deep appreciation of the jazz tradition. Known for his buoyant, swinging touch and sensitive accompaniment, he has worked with many of the country?s leading jazz singers, including Becky Alice, Pete Horsfall, Camille Rose, Annie Majin, and Immy Churchill. For this concert, Sam will be joined by the incredible vocalist and songwriter Gabrielle Stravelli. Gabrielle Stravelli brings soulful swing, sharp lyricism and a deep connection to the American jazz and songbook tradition. Her career has taken her around the world, with recent highlights including a month-long tour of Europe and the UK, culminating in her debut at the Royal Albert Hall?s Late Night Jazz series, as well as debut appearances at Carnegie Hall and Dizzy?s Club in New York. She has also recently toured South America and held her fifth residency at Birdland Jazz Club. Gabrielle has collaborated with jazz pianist Fred Hersch, most recently recording his song cycle Suspended in Time, and has toured the U.S. premiering Abyssinian with Wynton Marsalis. As a U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassador, she has performed and taught throughout Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America. Sam and Gabrielle will be joined on bass by the great Patrick O?Leary, who has toured and recorded with a remarkable list of jazz legends, including Lionel Hampton, Illinois Jacquet, Diana Krall, Bob Dorough, Joe Lovano, Lee Konitz, Barry Harris, Marlena Shaw and many others. ?Ms. Stravelli?s emotional intelligence coincides with a phenomenal voice that she wielded with an easygoing confidence and impeccable taste.? ?
