Shakespeare’s Globe London is a site that welcomes over 1.25 million visitors a year to watch plays, concerts, workshops, lectures, film screenings, family events, and guided tours. It consists of two performance spaces – the Globe Theatre and the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Shakespeare Globe has also produced numerous world premieres of new plays.
The Globe Theatre is an open-air theatre that officially opened in 1997, holding 1570 (700 standing, 870 seated). The Globe Theatre is the only thatched roof building in London. The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse opened in 2014, holds 340 and is modelled on the candlelit theatres of Shakespeare’s London. There is also the digital platform of Globe Player.
Sam Wanamaker founded the Shakespeare’s Globe Trust in 1971, and the site has gone on to perform every Shakespeare play written, new plays and other works. In 2012 the Globe To Globe Festival performed every Shakespeare play, each in a different language! Shows to look forward to include Romeo And Juliet, The Crucible, The Merry Wives Of Windsor, Rough Magic, Twelfth Night, and Troilus And Cressida. Tube - London Bridge, Blackfriars, Mansion House, Southwark, and St. Pauls
Bus - 45,63,100 to Blackfriars Bridge, 11,15,17,26 to Mansion House, 76 to St. Paul's.
You can also get a boat to Bankside Pier.
