White Lies
In terms of changing direction, the Ealing three-piece made more of a Cruyff turn than a jink to the left. The West London trio started life as a neo-Britpop outfit under the name Fear Of Flying. After just a couple of singles, they ripped everything up and started again as darkly anthemic, pitch-black, synth-driven new wavers White Lies.
The change was as successful as it was dramatic, the band’s very own “Sandy in a leather jacket” moment. Their pulsating, dark synths appropriately featuring in the acclaimed vampire drama "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night," ahead of their debut album, "To Lose My Life…", hitting No.1 in the UK on its release in 2009.
