WHAT'S ON AT THE BARBICAN CENTRE, LONDON
The Barbican Centre is the largest performing arts centre of its kind in Europe and was opened in 1982 by Queen Elizabeth II. This Grade II listed building impressively holds numerous spaces including theatres, performance halls, cinemas, the Barbican Library, restaurants, conference halls, a tropical conservatory, a lakeside terrace, and trade exhibition halls as well as informal performance spaces.
The Barbican Hall is home to the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra and has a capacity of 1943. The Barbican Theatre was designed exclusively for and by the Royal Shakespeare Company and has a capacity of 1156. The Pit is a flexible 200 seat theatre space. Art galleries include the Barbican Art Gallery and The Curve.
