What's On at The Comedy Store, London
The Comedy Store London opened its doors in 1979 at the Gargoyle Nightclub in Soho, moved to its Leicester Square club in 1982, and moved to its current home below TGI’s in the heart of theatreland in 1993. The club holds 400 people and hosts the best that comedy has to offer. The Comedy Store London is the only comedy club in the UK that is open virtually every day.
In 1985 the club was approached by a then unknown Mike Myers with the idea for an improvised show taking suggestions from the audience, and The Comedy Store Players were born. With original members of Paul Merton, Josie Lawrence, Neil Mullarkey, Richard Vranch, Lee Simpson, Jim Sweeney, Dave Cohen, and Kit Hollerbach, many still perform together today!
In 1990 The Edge (formerly The Cutting Edge) was born – a show where comedians took suggestions from the audience on topical issues and current news – the first of its kind in the UK! It brought us many of the comedian we know and love today, with alumni including Bill Bailey, Phil Jupitus, Jo Brand, Andy Parsons, Lee Hurst, Mark Thomas, Eddie Izzard, Linda Smith, Ed Byrne, Marcus Brigstocke, and Jimmy Carr.
