Featuring Happy Mondays legend Shaun William Ryder and Ruthless Rap Assassins frontman Paul "Kermit" Leveridge, Black Grape could only have been made in Manchester. The swagger, fun and cryptic humour seem hewn from a city historian AJP Taylor once described as offering an archetypally different way of English urban life to London.
Fusing funk and electronic rock with samples, the group topped the UK charts in 1995 with their Platinum selling debut album, "It's Great When You're Straight...Yeah", which spawned the hits "In the Name of the Father", "Reverend Black Grape" and "Kelly's Heroes" while follow up albums "Stupid Stupid Stupid" and "Pop Voodoo" and the singles "Fat Neck" and"England's Irie" all reached the UK Top 20.
